What should I do if I forgot to check out with my Gaiyo Card?

1. Can I check out later with NS?

Yes. When traveling with NS, you can check out later in the day:

  • This is possible up to 6 hours after your check-in time, but no later than 4:00 a.m.
  • Please note: this is only possible if you have not made any other public transport transactions with your Gaiyo Card in the meantime.
  • Checking out at the same station where you checked in is not permitted.

2. What if I only discover this later (or receive a notification)?

In that case, you can use the refund service via [uitcheckgemist.nl]. There, you can do the following in a few steps:

  • Fill in your travel details (including departure and arrival stations)
  • Submit a request for a refund of the overpaid amount

3. What if the missed check-out is not visible on uitcheckgemist.nl?

If the missed check-out is not yet visible, you can set a reminder so that you can correct it as soon as it becomes known.

Some transport companies apply limits, such as a maximum of 3 claims per transport company per six months.

If you are unable to correct a missed check-out, please refer to the additional information on OV-chipkaart.nl or contact the transport company.
